What Can We Learn From The Alchemist (The Novel)?

There are probably a few stories in this world as powerful as The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Its message is one that would resonate through hearts down the ages. It speaks of a boy who sought out purpose and meaning in life, and a treasure, which he was told, existed in a far away land near the pyramids. He also sought his fate through the omens and signs that the universe provided him with. The book always spoke of the idea of omens, and how they speak the universal language of the universe, and that we ought to follow it with all our strength.

One of the things the book talks about is the Personal Legend. The Personal Legend, basically means the very task that we were born to do. It represents the very thing that God had prepared for us to pursue, as individuals. No one can really aid you in finding it, neither you yourself! You can't really go out looking for it, so as much as it will find you. When one finds that spark within himself, everything inside him dances with the energies of the universe. He realizes the very thing he was born to do.

Yet many people in the world fail to see this. And even when they do, they fail to achieve that Personal Legend, as they haven't been able to discover it. The purpose in life is always up to the individual to find. No matter how much wisdom countless sages will give you, at the end of the day, it is you, and only you, who can find and attain it. It's the hardest thing in the world to do. Some people would start laughing at you, even, when you speak to them about your Personal Legend, and how you've found purpose. They'll keep telling you that only in abiding with the status quo, will you be able to achieve success.

Yet I've learned that the one thing that supersedes success is value, as Einstein said. A man of success is one who strives for his own personal gain through wealth. A man of value is one who offers whatever he has for the greater good of humanity. Wherever we look, we see people pursuing success, so diligently, only thinking about their own individual self. Little do they know, that true success, visa vi, value, comes from the complete selfless attitude you carry towards your fellow human beings.

The boy follows all the omens and signs given by the universe, and finally finds his destiny. He went from being just a shepard, always having this feeling that even the sheep spoke a universal language, to being an enlightened master of his own fate. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who can't seem to find his place in this world. Although many people have already read it, I thought that I ought to blog about it. It is truly a book worth talking about!

There are many times when we feel that all luck is against us. We begin to feel that every last odd of the world stacks upon our lives, and we sink further into darkness, even though we know that light exists. Light is everywhere, so all we have to do, is to let the energy in. Call out to the light and white spirits of energy. Be one with the energy flow of the cosmos. And although it's cliche to say this, never give in. Giving in is just another way for all demons in your area to feast on your mind.

I leave you with a quote from the novel, The Alchemist, "When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."
